Abraham became the father of Isaac, and Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan Aram and sister of Laban the Aramean. Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was childless. The Lord answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant. The babies jostled each other within her, and she said, \u201cWhy is this happening to me?\u201d<\/p><p>So she went to inquire of the Lord . The Lord said to her, \u201cTwo nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.\u201d When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb. The first to come out was red, and his whole body was like a hairy garment; so they named him Esau. After this, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau\u2019s heel; so he was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah gave birth to them.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9f0aeab elementor-drop-cap-yes elementor-drop-cap-view-default elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9f0aeab\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-settings=\"{&quot;drop_cap&quot;:&quot;yes&quot;}\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The boys grew up, and Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the open country, while Jacob was content to stay at home among the tents. Isaac, who had a taste for wild game, loved Esau, but Rebekah loved Jacob. Once when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished. He said to Jacob, \u201cQuick, let me have some of that red stew! I\u2019m famished!\u201d (That is why he was also called Edom. ) Jacob replied, \u201cFirst sell me your birthright.\u201d \u201cLook, I am about to die,\u201d Esau said. \u201cWhat good is the birthright to me?\u201d But Jacob said, \u201cSwear to me first.\u201d So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob. Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. He ate and drank, and then got up and left. So Esau despised his birthright.<\/p><p>Genesis 25:19-34 NIV<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dbeb9fd elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"dbeb9fd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/romans10v15.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/elementor\/thumbs\/Untitled-11-oxeby4tjp4e0o9n5f5rfqkjtxuzn1wwfr8xcnwhv5s.png\" title=\"Jacob and Esau\" alt=\"Jacob and Esau\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-862b278 elementor-drop-cap-yes elementor-drop-cap-view-default elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"862b278\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-settings=\"{&quot;drop_cap&quot;:&quot;yes&quot;}\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Now there was a famine in the land\u2014besides the previous famine in Abraham\u2019s time\u2014and Isaac went to Abimelek king of the Philistines in Gerar. The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, \u201cDo not go down to Egypt; live in the land where I tell you to live. Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham. I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because Abraham obeyed me and did everything I required of him, keeping my commands, my decrees and my instructions.\u201d So Isaac stayed in Gerar.<\/p><p>Genesis 26:1-6 NIV<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-50b3701 elementor-drop-cap-yes elementor-drop-cap-view-default elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"50b3701\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-settings=\"{&quot;drop_cap&quot;:&quot;yes&quot;}\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>When Esau was forty years old, he married Judith daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and also Basemath daughter of Elon the Hittite. They were a source of grief to Isaac and Rebekah.<\/p><p>Genesis 26:34-35 NIV<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-inner-section elementor-element elementor-element-594ad8c elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"594ad8c\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-9294f9e\" data-id=\"9294f9e\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a1b9324 elementor-drop-cap-yes elementor-drop-cap-view-default elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a1b9324\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-settings=\"{&quot;drop_cap&quot;:&quot;yes&quot;}\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>When Isaac was old and his eyes were so weak that he could no longer see, he called for Esau his older son and said to him, \u201cMy son.\u201d \u201cHere I am,\u201d he answered. Isaac said, \u201cI am now an old man and don\u2019t know the day of my death. Now then, get your equipment\u2014your quiver and bow\u2014and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me. Prepare me the kind of tasty food I like and bring it to me to eat, so that I may give you my blessing before I die.\u201d\u00a0<\/p><p>Now Rebekah was listening as Isaac spoke to his son Esau. When Esau left for the open country to hunt game and bring it back, Rebekah said to her son Jacob, \u201cLook, I overheard your father say to your brother Esau, \u2018Bring me some game and prepare me some tasty food to eat, so that I may give you my blessing in the presence of the Lord before I die.\u2019 Now, my son, listen carefully and do what I tell you: Go out to the flock and bring me two choice young goats, so I can prepare some tasty food for your father, just the way he likes it. Then take it to your father to eat, so that he may give you his blessing before he dies.\u201d<span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, \u201cBut my brother Esau is a hairy man while I have smooth skin. What if my father touches me? I would appear to be tricking him and would bring down a curse on myself rather than a blessing.\u201d His mother said to him, \u201cMy son, let the curse fall on me. Just do what I say; go and get them for me.\u201d So he went and got them and brought them to his mother, and she prepared some tasty food, just the way his father liked it. Then Rebekah took the best clothes of Esau her older son, which she had in the house, and put them on her younger son Jacob. She also covered his hands and the smooth part of his neck with the goatskins. Then she handed to her son Jacob the tasty food and the bread she had made.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>He went to his father and said, \u201cMy father.\u201d \u201cYes, my son,\u201d he answered. \u201cWho is it?\u201d Jacob said to his father, \u201cI am Esau your firstborn. I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eat some of my game, so that you may give me your blessing.\u201d Isaac asked his son, \u201cHow did you find it so quickly, my son?\u201d \u201cThe Lord your God gave me success,\u201d he replied. Then Isaac said to Jacob, \u201cCome near so I can touch you, my son, to know whether you really are my son Esau or not.\u201d Jacob went close to his father Isaac, who touched him and said, \u201cThe voice is the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau.\u201d He did not recognize him, for his hands were hairy like those of his brother Esau; so he proceeded to bless him. \u201cAre you really my son Esau?\u201d he asked. \u201cI am,\u201d he replied. Then he said, \u201cMy son, bring me some of your game to eat, so that I may give you my blessing.\u201d Jacob brought it to him and he ate; and he brought some wine and he drank. Then his father Isaac said to him, \u201cCome here, my son, and kiss me.\u201d<\/p><p>So he went to him and kissed him. When Isaac caught the smell of his clothes, he blessed him and said, \u201cAh, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that the Lord has blessed. May God give you heaven\u2019s dew and earth\u2019s richness\u2014 an abundance of grain and new wine. May nations serve you and peoples bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. May those who curse you be cursed and those who bless you be blessed.\u201d\u00a0<\/p><p>After Isaac finished blessing him, and Jacob had scarcely left his father\u2019s presence, his brother Esau came in from hunting. He too prepared some tasty food and brought it to his father. Then he said to him, \u201cMy father, please sit up and eat some of my game, so that you may give me your blessing.\u201d His father Isaac asked him, \u201cWho are you?\u201d \u201cI am your son,\u201d he answered, \u201cyour firstborn, Esau.\u201d Isaac trembled violently and said, \u201cWho was it, then, that hunted game and brought it to me? I ate it just before you came and I blessed him\u2014and indeed he will be blessed!\u201d When Esau heard his father\u2019s words, he burst out with a loud and bitter cry and said to his father, \u201cBless me\u2014me too, my father!\u201d But he said, \u201cYour brother came deceitfully and took your blessing.\u201d Esau said, \u201cIsn\u2019t he rightly named Jacob ? This is the second time he has taken advantage of me: He took my birthright, and now he\u2019s taken my blessing!\u201d Then he asked, \u201cHaven\u2019t you reserved any blessing for me?\u201d Isaac answered Esau, \u201cI have made him lord over you and have made all his relatives his servants, and I have sustained him with grain and new wine. So what can I possibly do for you, my son?\u201d Esau said to his father, \u201cDo you have only one blessing, my father? Bless me too, my father!\u201d Then Esau wept aloud. His father Isaac answered him, \u201cYour dwelling will be away from the earth\u2019s richness, away from the dew of heaven above. You will live by the sword and you will serve your brother. But when you grow restless, you will throw his yoke from off your neck.\u201d<\/p><p>Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. He said to himself, \u201cThe days of mourning for my father are near; then I will kill my brother Jacob.\u201d When Rebekah was told what her older son Esau had said, she sent for her younger son Jacob and said to him, \u201cYour brother Esau is planning to avenge himself by killing you. Now then, my son, do what I say: Flee at once to my brother Laban in Harran. Stay with him for a while until your brother\u2019s fury subsides. When your brother is no longer angry with you and forgets what you did to him, I\u2019ll send word for you to come back from there. Why should I lose both of you in one day?\u201d Then Rebekah said to Isaac, \u201cI\u2019m disgusted with living because of these Hittite women. If Jacob takes a wife from among the women of this land, from Hittite women like these, my life will not be worth living.\u201d<\/p><p>Genesis 27:1-46 NIV<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-inner-section elementor-element elementor-element-d4c1539 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"d4c1539\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-d9de40b\" data-id=\"d9de40b\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8152b7d elementor-drop-cap-yes elementor-drop-cap-view-default elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8152b7d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-settings=\"{&quot;drop_cap&quot;:&quot;yes&quot;}\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>So Isaac called for Jacob and blessed him. Then he commanded him: \u201cDo not marry a Canaanite woman. Go at once to Paddan Aram, to the house of your mother\u2019s father Bethuel. Take a wife for yourself there, from among the daughters of Laban, your mother\u2019s brother. May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples. When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. There above it stood the Lord , and he said: \u201cI am the Lord , the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.\u201d Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it. He called that place Bethel, though the city used to be called Luz.
